Will videogames become better than life?
TED talks just keeps ‘em coming. In the latest raft of talks from TED game designer Dave Perry talks about the history of video games, the future of the medium and speculates about when a videogame will make him cry. This talk has great visuals which map out the evolution of games over time reflecting the growing sophistication of graphics and emotional content. Dave Perry has designed, programmed and produced numerous games and was one of the main forces behind ‘Enter the Matrix’. He is currently embarking on some massively collaborative game development projects which you can find out more about on his blog here. He gave this talk at TED in 2006 but it is still very relevant today.

I think it ironic that it is through the moving image that this gamer uses to articulate his own interpretation of the future.

I guess he could have got the audience to play a game or played a game himself but it’s pretty common to demo games through a pre-rendered video sequence or game trailer
