What your online profile says about you
An interesting insight on news.com.au featuring Laurel Papworth (social network strategist and occasional LAMP presenter) doing some detective work on what your profile on Facebook or MySpace really reveals about you. The article “Facebook, MySpace reveals hidden messages‘ and video embedded below includes Laurel suggesting profile update status is now the new way (SMS being a recent heart breaker method) to communicate quite ‘personal’ things with your inner circle (which is often by accident a very large outer circle). *Goes to check his relationship status*
And if that relationship breaks down then a “no longer in a relationship” update lets your friends, and sometimes your ex, know right away. “I know one girl who found out her boyfriend had broken up with her because he changed his Facebook status update,” Ms Papworth said. “She rang him and said ‘You’ve changed the update, what’s happened?’ And he said ‘Can’t you guess?’ “Every generation guys find a way of copping out of doing the right thing, using different communication tools, and women do as well. This is just the newest way of breaking hearts.”
