Web 2.0 in Review - Australian Photography Centre Sydney

Nirvana Panorama 12

One of many presentations I do but this might be of interest to Watercooler’s - yes all five of you! A talk at Sydney’s ACP (Australian Centre of Photography) about the good ole metaverse featuring Gary and also a project that started in LAMP called What If Shakespeare, from a lab in November last year. Kate Richards (notable for new media art - joke link) will be talking about this new sim, now called ‘Foul Whispers’ based on Macbeth & Shakespearean themes, in Second Life.

PANEL DISCUSSION - 6 pm Thursday 18 September

As the hype that surrounded the arrival of Web 2.0 begins to settle, we take a broad look at the social networks, virtual environments and new platforms that mushroomed in the past two years, to assess how and why they succeeded, what didn’t work, and what’s in store for the future.

Panellists include Gary Hayes (AFTRS, LAMP) who built the Bigpond, Deakin University, Tourism Victoria, Thursday’s Fictions, AFTRS, Marni, Cog and ABC Islands in Second Life; Kathy Cleland, curator of Mirror Worlds at the Campbelltown Arts Centre and lecturer in new media at Sydney University; and media artist and producer Kate Richards, whose recent projects include Wayfarer at the Performance Space and the upcoming “Foul Whispers” in Second Life.

  • I love the ACP! Back in the day when I used to call myself a photographer I did some volunteer work there in exchange for use of their darkroom. Such a great facility, and an interesting subject Gary - I hope to make it on Thurs.
