Social Virtual Worlds vs Game Worlds

A lot of discussion at AFTRS at the moment on differentiating between Games and Social Virtual Worlds and this diagram from Fred Cavazza (site, en Francais) is a clear attempt at highlighting the differences. I like the way Fred (who incidentally has some other great ‘emergent media’ charts here) has used four corners of social, game, entertainment and business to further focus on why something like Star Wars Galaxies is not IMVU or Google Earth is not Football Superstars. It is also interesting that quite a few of these are already deceased ’sims online’ and Outback for example but there are many more replacing them…I embed the video I did last week again for reference below this linked diagram.
