SKATEBOARDING FOR REAL IN WORLD OF WARCRAFT
AFTRS is running two new cool Graduate Diploma courses starting in Feb 2009 in Virtual Worlds and Games Design and we have had a few open days at the new building at the Fox Entertainment Quarter to excite and inform. For the last one we did a fun, little experiment and composited (green screened) visitors into a live MMORPG (World of Warcraft) featuring SilkCharm (a famous WoW character). The whole thing was a sort of mash-up of visual fx, online games, virtual worlds and role playing. Here is a quick compilation of some of those moments.
Created using a professional key rig and two instances of World of Warcraft (one for SilkCharm character and one as camera - keyed as background for live participants). Filmed live at AFTRS Open Day Sept 08. Special thanks to AFTRS digital staff, post production, marketing willing visitors and SilkCharm (http://silkcharm.blogspot.com). Edited by Gary Hayes.
More about the courses below - registration closes 7 November 2008:
VIRTUAL WORLDS
Produce engaging virtual story environments and develop innovative services for the social web, film pre-visualisation, machinima and online games.
Virtual Worlds courses at AFTRS encompass a diverse range of applications of virtual environments, from social virtual worlds, film pre-visualisation, online games to computer animation.
One of the fastest growing areas of entertainment ‘virtual worlds’ offer many new opportunities for large scale creative expression.
Our courses explore the potential to extend story into multi-user social and game environments and feature collaborative activities with other disciplines to develop virtual world projects for film pre-visualisation and machinima.
Mixed reality cross overs between television and virtual worlds are also explored.
GAMES DESIGN
Invent captivating play; investigate new genres, interfaces and emotional story experiences
Game Design Courses at AFTRS are new breed of course focused on storytelling and the creative development of innovative game mechanics.
Our courses are ideas-led with an approach distinct from other tools and technology focused games programs. At AFTRS our cinematic storytelling expertise informs our approach to the rapidly evolving field of game design.
Game designers trained at AFTRS will emerge with a range of skills to develop and prototype innovative, marketable game properties.
