Mobile games in Times Square

A company called MegaPhone have launched a public video game on MTV’s giant screen billboard in Times Square. Games are designed to bring people together in public spaces and they are controlled via mobile phones. Jury Hahn is the Korean born face behind this new public spectacle and she’s profiled in this month’s Wired Magazine. You can read the article here. The details are pretty scant but prepared for this technology to be reaching our shores in the near future as advertisers look for new experiences to engage consumers around brands. The MegaPhone team were picked as tech innovators to watch by Wired in 2007. Would be great to see this kind of technology deployed in cinemas instead of the rather tedious and old fashioned 30 sec spots that precede the main feature. There is also potential in the education sphere for mobile, locative and public space projects to engage students in learning and creativity.
