Bite Size Appeal
I never really understood the appeal of “bite size” entertainment, wondering how 1.5 to 5min episodes, or more correctly webisodes, would be anything other than frustrating. Mind you, I had never exposed myself to any of entertainment of this kind so did not have a great deal to go on! Then came Dr. Horrible’s sing-along blog, one of Joss Whedon’s more recent creations. Being a fan of Mr. Whedon’s work this piqued my interest and, lo and behold I realise that entertainment is all about the content (what a concept!). In essence it’s not how it’s delivered but what is delivered that is the key to holding my attention. *sigh* we are so quick to judge before we truly encounter sometimes - it’s a wonder we ever experience anything new!
Enough about my revelations (sadly behind the times I know). Here are some up coming, exciting sounding releases of varying lengths and genres that I discovered with my new found enthusiasm for the “bite sized”!!
The Scary City - EP of lonelygirl15 to launch new big budget online series . Ambitious Aoyagi says her goal is “to redefine ARG and interactivity…. …provide the world with the ultimate entertainment, regardless of age, religion, language, culture and race.” More indepth and exciting info in Variety
Stephen King’s “N.” - As a teen I was such a fan of Stephen King and although I seem to have outgrown his novels I do still appreciate Horror / Thriller done well. Adapted from a previously unpublished short story this is a series of 25 graphic video episodes with great use of music and sound for effect! Watch them at Nishere.com
Woke Up Dead - Zombie comedy from Electric Farm Entertainment starring and produced by Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite)
Ark - Sci-fi, freaky, blue
Felicia Day’s project in the works with Machinima.com - 5 short form episodes to start, intended to be combined into a half hour pilot. Includes some interactive element with a view to writing further episodes making use of creative feedback from the viewers. More here and here
Old news but still fun….
The Guild - One of Felicia Day’s earlier projects. Season 2 coming soon!!
The Line - Comic relief featuring Bill Hader of SNL
For those of you who are a fan of Joss Whedon and have not yet seen Dr. Horrible…

Great post and some cool links Cass but! You mentioned Bite sized but Dr Horribles episodes are a massive 42 minutes long - well the most recent one
Thats a meal rather than a bite…Thinking about durations, quick me-poll, I can manage about a 2 mins mobisode before zoning out, perhaps around 5 mins iPhonisode (new word!), around 8-12 mins webisode and my proper TV episode is down to probably 20 mins before I reach for something less passive…:)

Thanks Gary! Yeah, you’re right. The Dr. Horrible linked to is all three eps rolled into one but 15mins is still massive for short form - I just couldn’t resist
Guess I’ll just have to work my way up to true bite sized entertainment - and with so much to choose from I’m sure I’ll have no trouble!

Great post Cass. Unfortunately the Olympics has got me hooked temporarily on TV but Dr Horrible is a great reason to go back to the internet!
